Hematology 2
All CBC/differential combinations ordered have a blood smear stained with Wright's stain, even if the automated differential is to be reported. Each slide is labeled on the end with the patient's name, hospital number and date. Slides are stored in the lab for about 6 months. A slide is made by placing one small drop of blood at the end of one slide and "smearing" it to a single cell thick with a second slide.
