- Reading a routine urinalysis test strip.
After removing the test strip from the urine sample, the various chemistry, pH and specific gravity pads on the strip are compared to the color chart on the strips bottle. The tests have specific times when a color comparison must be made. Examples: Glucose is 30 seconds, ketones are 40 seconds, specific gravity is 45 seconds and leukocytes are 2 minutes. The timing of the dipstick is of the utmost importance and cannot be ignored.
