Squamous Cell Carcinoma
  • Firm erythematous to flesh colored elevated nodule with a smooth or warty surface; the central part may be hyperkeratotic, ulcerated or crusted
  • Lesions occur in chronically sun-exposed skin and in areas of chronic injury such as burn scars, irritated sites, discoid lupus erythematosus and osteomyelitis sinuses
      • Oral lesions may occur
      • Has potential for both local invasion and metastasis
      • Histology: Atypical keratinocytes extend from the epidermis in lobules and strands into the dermis
