Kidney Fine Needle Aspiration - Benign Neoplasm (Cytology)
Single cells with intact cytoplasm and small, thin groups are present in some areas of the smear. These are the best areas to study the nuclear features. Uniform size, shape and chromatin texture with subtle nucleoli are important nuclear features for the diagnosis of oncocytoma. If there is nuclear pleomorphism carcinoma must be considered. Examining multiple samples from the mass will help in the distinction.
