Liver Fine Needle Aspiration - Benign Neoplasm (Cytology)
Higher power examination shows many cells to have clear cytoplasm because of accumulated glycogen. Mitotic figures are not seen, and the nuclei tend to be round and less variable in size than those found in regenerative nodules of cirrhotic liver. If the needle is definitely in the lesion and there is a clinical history of hormone therapy or metabolic disease, a diagnosis of hepatocellular adenoma is made. Followup radiographic examinations will determine whether the lesion is regressing after removal of the inciting cause.
