Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (Cytology)
The low power view of alcohol-fixed, Papanicolaou-stained aspirate smears shows deep aggregates of firmly cohesive epithelial cells with glossy transparent globules of the basement membrane material appearing embedded in the cellular group. These clear areas in Papanicolaou-stained slides are bright pink on Diff-Quik-stained slides, but are much denser than the stromal fragments of pleomorphic adenoma.
